In fact, the elves and dwarves of DOS2 seem to actually bond over their mutual hatred of humans - a hatred that the humans are all too happy to return. There are some racist characters, but they are anomalies. Right off the bat, it's notable that elves and dwarves do not have that classic interspecies rivalry that often plagues fantasy settings. However, DOS2's elves and dwarves stand out from those found in other fantasy worlds - and their histories are joys to learn about. While humans are pretty standard and lizards are the "odd" choice, the latter two races seem pretty typical for fantasy games. While the original featured only playable humans, DOS2 features humans, lizards, dwarves and elves. Even player-created characters have built-in backgrounds, and each race and faction is given a rich history that can be discovered through patient, attentive gameplay.
