This is a high-quality virtual instrument with frequent articulation changes. Maybe, I thought, I’ll do the article after all. I took the same approach again and put it on the drum bus and thought that the gods of thunder would be pleased.
I made up a couple rules on how to approach using Animate, applied it to the 2-bus, and struck gold apart from cymbals shimmering in and out in a bad way. I try some of the presets on material that seems appropriate and my jaw dropped a little. Now I have a general understanding of what’s going on. I finished reading the manual and went to bed. I still didn’t like Animate, but it wasn’t as bad as I first thought. I didn’t read that much of it at one time because every time I gained something from the manual I’d start experimenting. I started reading the manual, very well written, and fiddled around. Fearing that it might not be up to Audio Plugin Guy standards, I considered not doing the article. Without reading the manual, I fiddled with all the controls and no matter what I did it sounded like shit. I do this first because it gives me a wide frequency-range of sound. I tried putting Animate on my 2-bus (stereo out) as the only plug. Spoiler alert: Taking the previous two paragraphs into account, you are reading this. So I don’t write negative reviews for fear that I’m too stupid to figure it out.
If I don’t like something, it might be because I don’t understand it or am trying to apply it to the wrong sort of material. But there are more important considerations on the opposite side. Writing positive reviews makes product makers like me.
